Black & Blue – 7/10

One should know that one has not been in the wars. Black & Blue is a chain of meat focussed eateries. A chain, but with solid standards. One found oneself confronted by a large red cow outside the restaurant entreating passers by to “love me” in large white letters. One assumes this works both ways for meat eaters and vegetarians. Naturally, each with different intentions.

The restaurant is built into a space under the railway arches. It is clean, contemporary with a lively buzz. somewhat akin to McSpigget’s on a Friday night yet with just a touch more class (not difficult alas). One chose lamb cutlets which were perfectly pink and were excrutiatingly tasty. One had no choice but to pick them up to finish them off (as evidenced above). Fortescue was in tow again and naturally had steak which he enjoyed greatly. Food was served on attractive wooden platters, including the cheese course which was generously accompanied by white and black grapes, celery and chutney. Monsieur Marcel in his fromagerie should take note! Naturally with Borough Market just outside, the cheeses were very good. All this was washed down with an excellent Tempranillo. There is also a bar which is frequented by city types after work who add to the buzz. Overall, a most satisfactory experience.
